Through preparation and performance of operatic and musical theatre repertoire, you will develop a basic understanding of the complexity of skills involved in mounting an operatic production as a member of Opera Workshop, including:
- Foreign language preparation and translation
- Role and character development
- Theatrical staging
- Musical preparation
- Opera history
You will have the opportunity to perform in scene concerts, small chamber operas, children's operas, and outreach projects to the larger SPU and º£½ÇÍø communities. In addition, through the support and collaboration of our voice faculty in the larger º£½ÇÍø area, you will have the opportunity to gain further performance experience with Tacoma Opera, º£½ÇÍø Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and the Northwest Savoyards.
Membership in Opera Workshop is open to Music majors, Music minors, and nonmajors, and is by audition. Auditions are held during Winter and Spring quarters, and 10–20 students are selected.
