BA in BIOLOGY
Suggested Course Sequence: A Four-Year Plan

At least 81 total and 30 upper-division credits are required for the BA in Biology (Option II) major. This course sequence is meant to be used as a guideline. Consult with your faculty advisor or academic counselor about modifying this plan to meet your needs, and to reflect any coursework you have already completed prior to enrolling at SPU.

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	Unless you are exempt, take the Math Placement Test at least three academic quarters before you intend to take your Exploratory Curriculum math class. Complete ENG 2201, if required.			AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB (Choose one)
Other				Electives to reach at least 45 credits if needed

YEAR 2	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter
Common Curriculum				UCOR 2000 /
Major	CHM 3371	CHM 3372		MAT 1360 OR HSC 4044
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	Complete elementaryforeign language,if requirement was not fulfilled in high school.			AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB (Choose none to three depending on competency courses needed.)
Other	Apply for admission to the major once the General Biology sequence is successfully completed.			Electives to reach at least 90 credits if needed

YEAR 3	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter
Common Curriculum				UCOR 3000
Major	BIO 3325			5 credits of a Comparative Biology Course from the following courses: BIO 3320, 3432, 3453, 3456, 4435, 4740, or 4744. 5 credits of an Ecology Course from the following courses: BIO 3310, 4810, 4815 or 4825. 12 upper division elective credits, see faculty advisor.
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)
Other	Apply to graduate once 105 credits and admission to major have been earned.			Electives to reach at least 135 credits if needed

YEAR 4	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter
Common Curriculum				BIO 4899, (two quarters of BIO 4899 must be taken for a total of two credits).
Major		BIO 4330, BIO 4615		OR BIO 4413 OR BIO 4415. 12 upper division elective credits, see faculty advisor.
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)
Other	Create a final-year plan and meet with your faculty advisor for review.			Electives to reach at least 180 total college-level quarter credits and 60 upper-division credits if needed
