ENGLISH MAJOR– CREATIVE WRITING CONCENTRATION
Suggested Course Sequence: A Four-Year Plan

At least 64 total and 30 upper-division credits are required for the BA in English – Creative Writing major. This course sequence is meant to be used as a guideline. Consult with your faculty advisor or academic counselor about modifying this plan to meet your needs, and to reflect any coursework you have already completed prior to enrolling at SPU.

YEAR 1	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum		OR	OR

Major				ENG 2215 ; and ENG 1110, 1220, 2221, 2223, 2234, or 2248

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	Begin or resume foreign language competency courses, if not complete. Complete ENG 2201 if required. Unless you are exempt, take the Math Placement Test at least three academic quarters before you intend to take your Exploratory Curriculum math class.			AHA, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (Choose one to five depending on competency courses needed)

Other				Electives to reach at least 45 credits, if needed

YEAR 2	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum				/

Major	ENG 2251	ENG 2252	ENG 2253	ENG 2225, ENG 3150, and ENG 3180;

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)

Other	Apply for admission to the major. A 2.5 GPA is required, including a 2.5 in any two of the following courses: ENG 2225, 2251, 2252, 2253.			Electives to reach at least 90 credits if needed

YEAR 3	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum				,

Major				Choose 2 of the Advanced Literary Studies courses (10 credits). Choose one pair of courses from a Genre Studies subcategory: ENG 3316 and 3310; OR ENG 3317 and 3311; OR ENG 3318 and 3311.

Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHA, AHB, AHC, SSA, SSB, NSA, NSB, MAT (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)

Other	Apply to graduate once 105 credits and admission to major have been earned.			Electives to reach at least 135 credits if needed

YEAR 4	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter

Common Curriculum

Major				Choose a second pair of Genre Studies courses to complete the subcategory begun in year three: ENG 4316 and 4823; OR ENG 4317 and 4822/4824 OR ENG 4318; and ENG 4445, ENG 4899. Choose from the following courses a class you did not use in the 14-credit Genre Studies subset: ENG 3316 or ENG 3317 or ENG 3318
